Moving On: accessible transport - Connect Culture
We are very excited to be organising a symposium /weekend Moving On: Accessible Transport – the past, present and the future with Coventry Transport Museum,Coventry University, Transport for All and Disability History Month on the 23-24th November 2013.
Coventry Transport Museum will be exhibiting several vehicles from the Museum’s collection which will form part of a display about the history of road transport for disabled people.We also hope to curate a display of disabled people’s campaign for accessible public transport.
Disability History Month will be collaborating with their theme of ‘Celebrating Our Struggle for Independent Living: No Return to the Institution and Isolation’ as accessible transport is so much an important part of independent living.
Richard Rieser will be conducting a seminar on independent living, history and transport
Coventry School of Art and Design and the Integrated Transport and Logistics Grand Challenge at Coventry University will be supporting as part of their Metpex, a recently funded EU project.
There will be a video competition for disabled people to participate on how they envisage and dream accessible transport will be for them in the future. We will be focusing on Universal/Inclusive Design.
A symposium with a panel of experts on accessible transport will take place on Saturday afternoon.
